Heroes can never be forgotten. That was the message from Chinese President Xi Jinping during the ceremony to honor the World War Two veterans.
"No matter if you fought on the frontline or in the back. No matter if you were a soldier or if you provided assistance, those who participated in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression are all war heroes and heroes of the nation," Xi said.
The medals mean much to the veterans who sacrificed their blood and youth for peace for the human race.
Former generals and airmen who fought on the China front were among the foreign dignitaries honored during the ceremony. This veteran was one of the pilots who flew the Hump -- the eastern end of the Himalaya Mountains -- to resupply the Chinese war effort during the Second World War.
