2018 World Cup qualifier: China preparing to take on Maldives

China continues with its campaign to qualify for the 2018 World Cup tonight. Taobao agent The team will play host to the Maldives in Shenyang, looking for a positive result after being held to a goalless draw by Hong Kong on Thursday.

Tonight’s match was originally scheduled to be played in the Maldivian capital of Malé. But the game was rescheduled after the stadium's football field was damaged during a National Day celebration.

The Chinese side practiced for the last two days without midfielder Sun Ke, who has a wrist injury. Striker Wu Xi also did not practice with the team, as he strained his leg during the match against Hong Kong.

Team China will be hoping for a quick start tonight.

"We are adjusting to our tactics the past two days. We are placing more emphasis on creating opportunities in front of the net during training. I hope we can score Tuesday night. If we can score early, it will make things much easier during the match," said Yu Dabao, China forward.

Island contingent seeking first victory in Group C 


China's opponent arrived at the Shenyang Olympic Center for a quick training session. The Maldives team is looking for its first win in Group C,Taobao Intermediate as it has lost the opening two matches of its World Cup qualifying campaign.
