International Friendly: Ali and Rooney sink Les Bleus on emotional night

Despite last Friday still being in the back of everyone's mind, Didier Deschamp's led France out at the famous stadium on a night where the beautiful game wasn't the main focus.

The famous Wembley arch was lit up in the French colours of blue, white and red as a symbol of solidarity to the visiting nation.

A sombre mood gripped those in attendance when the teams took to the field with both sides knowing that football was taking a back seat for the evening.

Along with England manager Roy Hodgson, France coach Deschamps and British Prime Minister David Cameron, Prince William also attended to lay a memorial wreath.

The 70,000 strong crowd then all joined in a rendition of the French national anthem, La Marseillaise as a sign of respect to those lost before a minute silence was impeccably observed.

On the pitch the game comes to life in the 38th minute. Wayne Rooney slips in Deli Ali, winning his first cap, and the Spurs midfielder riffles one right into the top corner past his club-mate Hugo Lloris. 1 nil England.

2 minutes after the break the three lions make it two. It's Raheem Sterling with the ball that finds the captain Rooney and his volley has just about enough on it to beat Lloris in the French goal, 2 nil the final score on a night where football took second stage.
